Mail-In Portfolio Review
While an on-campus portfolio review brings obvious advantages to the applicant, such as having the opportunity to tour the School of Art facilities and meet with an art faculty member, there is no penalty for submitting a portfolio by mail. As with on-campus reviews, all by-mail portfolio items are evaluated by art faculty.
Applicants submitting a portfolio by mail should NOT schedule an on-campus portfolio review.
What to Mail
Portfolios submitted for review by mail must contain the four items listed below:
- Documentation of 15-20 recent works submitted as follows:
- Paintings, prints, drawings or sculpture (still work) formatted as 35 mm slide images in a standard 9" x 11" slide sheet, JPEG or TIFF format on CD or as a DVD Slide Show (1024 x 768 maximum image size)
- Time-based work such as video or animation on DVD or VHS video
- Animation, video, interactive work or Web sites on CD or DVD (composite animations to play on video, DVD or as a Quicktime movie/interactive work must run as a stand-alone application, without requiring the installation of additional software)
- Numbered list of all items describing size, type of material and date of creation
- One-page statement about the portfolio and the applicant's art-related experiences, training and background
No original slides or documentation should be mailed. Please submit only copies. All items included in the mail-in portfolio (each slide, CD, DVD, etc.) must be labeled with the applicant's full name and social security number, if applicable. Also be sure to specify the orientation of the slide with the label, "top."
