Bio

Kristen Kurland, a Teaching Professor in Architecture and the H. John Heinz III College, teaches technology courses Advanced CAD, BIM, and 3D Animation, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM). At the Heinz College, Professor Kurland also advises Health Care Policy and Management system synthesis projects and teaches Infrastructure Management to physician executives in their Master of Medical Management program. She has a strong focus on distance education and has been teaching through this vehicle for many years.

Research

Professor Kurland's research focuses on interdisciplinary collaborations in health, the built environment, and spatial analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). She works closely with CMU’s Heinz College, School of Architecture, and Civil and Environmental Engineering colleagues and students on health, urban design, economic development, sustainability, and IT issues. She actively collaborates with Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health, and many public health departments.
