Hazard Communication TrainingA few months ago, I wrote in this newsletter about a change in the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, called “Global Harmonization.” I referred to a need to re-train all applicable employees in the University in the regulation and its changes.
Over the next several months, all employees who work with or near hazardous materials will need to receive updated training. It will be provided by EH&S in all cases. The following groups will need to have this training:
• Facility Management Services
• Housing and Dining
• Art, Drama, Design Architecture
• Printing & Publication
• Photography areas
• Computer maintenance staff
Please contact Mark Banister at 8-1493 or firstname.lastname@example.org to set up training sessions. We will work with you to address all of your applicable personnel and will orient the training specifically to the tasks performed by your personnel. The training should take less than one hour. If we don’t hear from you, we will contact YOU!
For supervisors in these areas, please ensure that all of your people attend the scheduled classes. For everyone else, please attend the class you are scheduled for. We have a final deadline of December 1st, and this is an OSHA requirement.
Please note that the Hazard Communication Standard does NOT address personnel in chemical laboratories — your training will be conducted differently and you are covered by a different OSHA Regulation.
