Disposing of Empty Chemical Containers

It is very important to dispose of empty chemical containers properly, to avoid concerns by anyone encountering the container as to whether there are still any hazards present.  The best use for the container is to use it to collect chemically similar (compatible) hazardous wastes.  The next best is to offer the container to our hazardous waste people so other labs can use it for waste collection.  If there is no need for the container, be sure it is properly emptied and rinsed.  Deface the original container label as noted in this picture.   Once clean, you can throw the LABEL-DEFACED container in the trash. empty container image
