Building Evacuations

It is very important for all of us to be aware that, when a building evacuation alarm sounds, it is MANDATORY that ALL people in the building evacuate.  People who do not evacuate are subject to personal fines from the City of Pittsburgh of up to $1000.  Never think that an evacuation is a false alarm or imagine any other reason not to leave the building.  Pick up your coats, keys and other personal items, shut down your work, and leave promptly.

Note also that it is NOT appropriate to return to the building as soon as the evacuation alarm ends.  We all must wait until University Police or another authorized person indicates that it is safe to re-enter the building. This is a very common mistake we see on campus.
