Reporting Building-wide Issues
No doubt all of us have been affected by smell or odor incidents that affect large portions of our lab buildings. EH&S frequently gets calls from affected persons, and we react to find the location of the problem, identify the cause, and implement appropriate responses. This whole process would be greatly improved if the people located in the source area notified EH&S promptly of the issue. This will enable the proper notifications as well as the responses, to occur promptly.
The sorts of things we are referring to are:
- Odors from overheated light ballasts
- Fume hood belts slipping (also a burning odor)
- Chemical reactions or spills unexpectedly releasing odors outside the lab
- Building issues that you are able to identify at least by location (such as steam leaks).
Please make these calls to 8-8182. For off-hours, this number will forward to an on-call member of our staff.
