Material Safety Data Sheet Links

All persons working with hazardous materials must have easy access to the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for EACH of those materials. Carnegie Mellon allows those responsible (supervisor, researcher or instructor) for a given work area to meet this requirement in two different fashions.

  1. The MSDS may be present in paper form in the work area, where all applicable persons have access to them.
  2. The MSDS may be accessed through the internet, PROVIDED that it has beenconfirmed that MSDS for all materials are available in this fashion AND that all applicable employees have access to the internet and are able to obtain MSDS in this way.

Many campus areas rely on electronic links to supply Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for the hazardous chemicals in their areas. To obtain an MSDS, select one of the links on this page. If the manufacturer of the chemical has a link here, use it. If it does not, use one of the general links: MSDS Search, Vermont SIRI MSDS, CCINFOweb. You may also try www.msdssolutions.com, which is not yet linked from this site.

Reading an MSDS is sometimes challenging as there are many different formats used and they very widely in their depth of information. For assistance in interpreting an MSDS, campus users may contact EH&S at 8-8182.
