The course is designed to provide a basic introduction to geology and its applications used to solve environmental problems. Along with the introduction to basic geological principles, topics for discussion in this course will include geological hazards, remediation of acid mine drainage (AMD), and other environmental problems in the Western Pennsylvanian region. There will also be a focus on Pittsburgh's geology and geological history. This course will include at least one field trip. A minor knowledge of chemistry will be helpful, but not mandatory.
