Morewood Gardens & E-Tower Eco-reps

I am an Eco-rep because I care about the environment, and I would like to inform those in my dorm of simple steps they can take to reduce their carbon footprints. Last year I actively participated in Sustainable Earth, CMU's main environmentalist club, helping to organize events and writing up leaflets to hand out with easy steps I feel everyone on campus can take to live a more eco-friendly life. I know that Carnegie Mellon is well-known for its commitment to sustainability, e.g. having the #1 Green Design architectural program among other distinctions, and I would like to contribute toward its efforts to promote environmentalism. |

I've always been somewhat of an unofficial eco-rep encouraging my friends to reuse and recycle or drink tap water. And last year for the Tartan I coincidentally got assigned to write most of the articles on green living so learned much more about sustainability. This knowledge as well as interviews with different campus leaders for environmental organizations influenced me to join Sustainable Earth last semester and since I have learned much more on the topic of environmentalism. I want to become an Eco-rep so that I can spread what I have learned and encourage others as well to live a more sustainable life. |

Being an Eco-Rep is an easy way to get involved with the rest of the campus and an easy way to get others involved as well. A lot of people are not aware of how our lifestyles affect the environment. I became an Eco-Rep to encourage and educate my fellow residents that a small change in our actions can make a big difference. |

I am an Eco-rep because I am extremely passionate about protecting our planet. I was in the environmental action club for all four years of high school. Junior year I became the vice president of the club, and senior year I became the president. I always encourage my family and friends to make environmentally friendly decisions everyday. I encouraged my parents to buy green bags and energy efficient light bulbs. I taught my friends how to seperate their plastics and paper for recycling, and I encouraged them to reuse old boxes without using peanuts or bubble wrap when packing for college. I want to join Eco-reps because I would like to encourage students in the CMU community to participate in eco-friendly activities. I hope to minor in Environmental policy or environmental science so that in the future I can continue working to create a more sustainable lifestyle for everyone. |
