Carnegie Mellon University

Our vision of philosophy is interdisciplinary, rigorous, applied and relevant.

We do research on the foundations of science, ethics, computation, mathematics, value theory, language, and much more. We engage with other disciplines, helping to improve their foundations, methods, and concepts. Our faculty do not remain in the ivory tower, but work with companies, governments, and nonprofits to develop more effective and more ethical technology, techniques, and practices. Our close connections to several other disciplines at Carnegie Mellon and our proximity to the University of Pittsburgh make for the most exciting venue for interdisciplinary philosophical work in the world today.
