Yasufumi Iwasaki Wins Elliot Dunlap Smith Award

Yasufumi Iwasaki, Associate Teaching Professor of Japanese Studies, won the Dietrich College’s 2014–15 Elliot Dunlap Smith Award for Distinguished Teaching and Educational Service. In the award announcement, Dean Richard Scheines praised Iwasaki for his “extraordinary dedication to his students and profession.” He also relayed a telling story about Professor Iwasaki, who has been a member of the Department of Modern Languages since 2005: “Some years back, the cover of Carnegie Mellon Magazine featured a photo of Baker Hall at night. Taken on a Saturday evening, the photo showed a dark Baker Hall with a light on in one office. It was Yasufumi’s office.”
