President's Message
Why your gift is so important

Dr. Cohon As Carnegie Mellon's eighth president, I am proud to be part of an institution that has already accomplished so much, yet is always striving to improve. And we will continue to advance if we can create the new opportunities that additional resources make possible. To do this—to deliver on our promise for the next century—we need new investments in the future of Carnegie Mellon.

Gifts from donors—corporations, foundations, alumni, friends, parents and others—will provide much-needed support to our endowment and our most important programs and facilities needs.

Your gifts will help us better support our most promising teachers and scholars. And they will enable us to compete more effectively with our peer institutions—the very best colleges and universities in the world.

Carnegie Mellon has shown itself to be a dynamic and entrepreneurial institution. As we celebrate our first century, we have proven that we can accomplish more with fewer resources than our competitors. The past 100 years give us great confidence for our future, but philanthropy and donor support will play a critical role in shaping Carnegie Mellon's entry into the next century.

As our founder Andrew Carnegie said 100 years ago, "My heart is in the work." I share this commitment—this dedication—to Carnegie Mellon with many alumni, friends and partners. With your support, we will succeed.
