Carnegie Mellon's dramatic rise in size, scope and stature is unmatched in American higher education. Over the course of its first 70 years, Carnegie Tech grew from its origin as a local technical school to become a leading regional institution. And in the short span of only 30 years, Carnegie Mellon went from its start as a full-service university in 1967 to become one of the top private research universities in the world.
