Recent Corporate Philanthropy
Carnegie Mellon has historically enjoyed mutually productive relationships with corporations. Below is a list of highlights of recent corporate gifts made to the university over the past quarter.
Intel gave $132,000 and named Carnegie Mellon one of only 10 test sites for the OpenCirrus project. (March 2010)
IBM gave $160,000 to support Professors Kekre, Margot, and Pena's work in operations research, business processes, and information systems in the Tepper School of Business. (March 2010)
General Motors recently supported Professor Rajkumar, the GM Autonomous Driving Collaborative Research Lab, and the Vehicle Information Technology Collaborative Research Lab. (February 2010) GM also provided support for Professors Jodi Forlizzi and Anind Dey and their project designed to enhance the skills of elderly drivers (March 2010)
Google gave $1,900,000 to honor nine faculty members with Google Focused Research Awards. Recipients included William Cohen, Christos Faloutsos, Garth Gibson, Tom Mitchell, David Anderson, Mor Harchol-Balter, Lorrie Cranor, Alessandro Acquisiti, and Norm Sadeh. (February 2010)
IBM gave $520,000 and selected Professors Jim Herbsleb, Eric Nyberg, Bonnie John, Alan Scheller-Wolf, Christos Faloutsos, Gerard Cornuejols, and Mahadev Satyanarayanan as recipients of IBM's 2009 Open Collaborative Faculty Awards. (August 2009-December 2010)
P.J. Dick made a $750,000 pledge to establish the P.J. Dick Incorporated Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Management Fellowship. (December 2009)
IBM gave $324,276 to support six PhD students as part of IBM's 2009 PhD Fellowship Awards. (November 2009)
Disney gave a $230,000 to support Jessica Hodgins and Mark Gross at the Disney Research Pittsburgh lab. (November 2009)
Nokia gave $250,000 to suppot Professors Matthew Kam and Martin Griss and their work with the MILLEE project and the Mobility Research Program, respectively. (November 2009)
