The Transition to Web Login
Technical Details
Computing Services is currently transitioning from WebISO, a Pubcookie-based authentication solution, to Web Login, a solution based on Shibboleth technology. We strongly recommend that new services adopt Web Login.
The previously used WebISO technology provided for only single sign-on access to web applications and web sites within our university. In other words, WebISO authentication was limited to individuals with Carnegie Mellon credentials and did not allow access to resources offered by other organizations.
The eventual, full implementation of Web Login will result in improved single sign-on capabilities, extending single sign-on and uniting us with organizations external to Carnegie Mellon University. Due to the collaborative nature of this technology, you may also notice our university name on login menus for various Internet services (e.g., www.internet2.edu) through the transition period.
