Software for New Users

Computing Services provides a number of software applications for students, faculty and staff members. Some software is free while other software requires a fee that you can pay at the the University Store Computer Sales.

For new students, faculty and staff members, this page provides a short list of the software you need to get started with computing at Carnegie Mellon. Once you're up and running, you should review the complete list of software.

IMPORTANT! Some software applications must be installed before installing others. If you are installing software for the first time, perform the installations in the order listed below:
