Matlab Installation Instructions

Note: On August 31 each year, the Matlab license file expires.  If you receive an license expiration message AND you use a stand-alone version of Matlab (it's installed on your computer), follow the steps to update your license.

Windows

  1. Unzip or unpack the downloaded file.
    Note
: If you are using Windows XP: The "built-in" utility is unable to unzip files larger than 4GB.  Since Matlab is 4+ GB, we recommend using Winzip or Winrar to unzip the folder.
  2. In the extracted folder, you will find detailed installation steps.

Mac

  1. Double-click the downloaded file to extract the contents.
  2. In the extracted folder, you will find detailed installation steps.
  3. Follow the linked steps, if you are prompted:

Linux

  1. Double the Matlab installation files to your computer.
  2. Create a directory to unzip the installer into; CD into that directory.
  3. Create a mountpoint for the matlab .iso file, type: sudo mkdir / media/iso
  4. Mount the iso, type: sudo mount -o loop (full path to .iso> /media/iso)
  5. Unzip the Matlab installer, type: sudo unzip/media/iso/matlab_R2012a_glnx86_installer.zip
  6. Type: cd archives
  7. Type: sudo cp /media/iso/archives/*
  8. Type: cd glnx86
  9. Type: sudo cp /media/iso/archives/glnx86/*
  10. You are now ready to install. You need to cd into the directory where you unzipped the installer and type sudo ./install
  11. Follow steps in the "Matlab-R2012aLicense_Instructions-linux.doc" to successfully complete the installation.
