Following is the schedule for performing backups of Cyrus Email servers, AFS file space and MyFiles file space. As you refer to this schedule, it is important to keep the following in mind:
- The data must be present during the backup cycle to be backed up. Because backups run nightly, any data that you create or edit during a particular day is not backed up until sometime that night. So, if you delete that data before it is backed up, it cannot be restored.
- It is not possible to know the exact time that your data will be backed up. Although data is backed up at least nightly, it is not possible to determine exactly what time your data will be backed up. For example, if your Cyrus Email account is one of the first to be processed, it may be backed up as early as 9:00 p.m. If it is one of the last to be backed up, it may not be backed until 8:00 a.m. the next morning.
Description: User accounts and bulletin boards. Does not include newsgroups (alt.*, clari.*, etc.)
Scheduled Backup: 9:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. daily
Retention Period: 19 days
Notes: No additional backups are performed. After 19 days, the data is not available for recovery.
Description: AFS User directories and project volumes. Files for Cluster Macs are also stored in this space.
Backup Schedule: 9:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. daily
Retention Period: 30 days
Notes: Data is also backed up at the end of each semester. End-of-semester backups are retained for five years.
Description: The My Documents and Desktop files for Cluster Windows users.
Backup Schedule: Twice daily.
Retention Period: Varies
Notes: The length of time for which backups are available varies depending on how much space is available on the server.
