Communications Cabling

The Computing Services Communications Cable Plant Office coordinates all aspects related to the installation and maintenance of communications cabling and outlets (voice, video and data) for the entire campus. This includes management of:

  • Category 6 UTP systems
  • coaxial cabling systems
  • multimode and single-mode fiber optic systems
  • all related pathway (riser and horizontal for both intra-building and inter-building)

Through coordination with the Communications Cable Plant, these cabling systems are activated by Telecom to provide voice (phone) and CableTV services and activated by Network Operations to provide data services (computer networking).  These groups may authorize others to use the cabling under their control, but first priority will always be telephone service on the voice cabling and the campus data network on the data cabling.

Estimates for installation and/or relocation of communications outlets (voice and data) are requested by completing the estimate request form.  If you do not require an estimate but would like to have a data (computer), voice (phone) or cableTV outlet installed, please use the installation request form. For repairs, please complete the repair request form.
