Windows 7
Support Approach
Windows 7 was released by Microsoft on October 22, 2009. Computing Services is currently evaluating campus core software and services for compatibility with this operating system. As evaluations take place, updated information will be posted through our official news channels and this web page. Until we have completed our evaluations, Windows 7 will NOT be supported by Computing Services.
Upgrade Information
If you would like to upgrade an older computer to Windows 7, first discuss it with your departmental administrator or DSP consultant. To determine if your current hardware is compatible with Windows 7, download the Upgrade Advisor from Microsoft's website. The upgrade version of Windows 7 Ultimate is available through the Computer Sales area of the University Store.

When running Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7, the installation steps for Carnegie Mellon web certificates are different than on Windows XP or Vista. You must manually select "Place all certificates in the following store" and then Browse for "Trusted Root Certification Authorities". By storing the certificate properly, IE 8 will correctly validate CMU self-signed certificates. This affects sites such as netreg.net.cmu.edu.
