VHS Transition
Last updated 5/4/08
As the classrooms and auditoriums across campus were renovated over the past two years, the VHS players were removed from service and not installed in the new rooms. Classroom renovations will be complete this summer 2008. Faculty and departments who still use VHS tapes should consider the following options prior to the start of the fall 2008 semester:
Options
- If available, purchase a DVD version of the VHS tape. This is the most cost and time effective option.
- Utilize conversion services available through Media Technology. Media Technology can convert VHS to DVD. In addition, if you show several clips from the video, or from various videos, these can be compiled onto a single DVD/CD. For pricing and copyright information, contact the Network Media Group, a division of Media Technology, at 412-268-3682 or email net-media@andrew.cmu.edu.
- Use the equipment available in CFA 318 to convert your VHS to DVD. Keep in mind VHS capture is in real time. If your VHS tape is an hour in length then, it will take an hour to capture the video. Plan your time accordingly. For help using the equipment, see VHS to DVD.
- Bring a VCR to the classroom. Help documentation is available online, see Connecting a VCR.
