Andrew Printing for Leopard Users

IMPORTANT NOTE: Leopard users wanting to print to public cluster and library printers may use this temporary workaround until a permanent solution is found.  The workaround does not password protect your job, permit the use of a guest card or another userID.  Jobs MUST be released with the ID card of the user installing the print queue.

Download and Install the Generic Driver

  1. Download the Mac OS X 10.5 printer software from http://www.cmu.edu/computing/software/all/printers/download.html.
  2. Double-click CMU-PrintSetup.dmg to mount it on your desktop.  The CMU Generic.ppd driver is needed.  Do not install Popup.mpkg.
  3. Select System Preferences > Print & Fax.
  4. In the Print & Fax window, click the lock to make changes and autheticate (if necessary).
  5. Click the + to add a new printer.
  6. CTRL-click (right-click) the toolbar and choose Customize Toolbar...
    Customize Toolbar...
  7. Drag Advanced to the toolbar and click Done.
  8. Select Advanced and enter the following:
  • Type: LPD/LPR Host or Printer
  • Device: Another Device
  • URL: lpd://USERID@printing.andrew.cmu.edu/andrew (replace USERID with your Andrew UserID)
  • Name: Andrew Central B&W
  • Printing Using: From the popup choose Other.
  1. Navigate to the Popup 6.0 drive and select CMU Generic.ppd.
  2. Click Open.
Advanced options
  1. Click Add.
  2. Click the lock to prevent changes.

For information on ordering and releasing your print jobs, see Order Your Print Job in the Printing document.
