Welcome back from the Information Security Office (ISO)!
Follow these three steps to start the semester off SAFELY!
STEP 1: Think Before You Click!
Think before you click on links and attachments in e-mails, instant messages, and on untrusted web sites. If you don't know the source, weren't expecting a message, or if a message/website looks suspicious, do not click and ABSOLUTELY do not provide any personal information! Verify first with a phone call or an independent e-mail. One bad click can infect your computer, launch attacks on others, and result in network suspension until your machine is disinfected!
STEP 2: Adhere to Copyright & Intellectual Property Laws
Carnegie Mellon is committed to the protection of intellectual property and copyrights. Illegal copying of creative works such as music, videos, images and text can subject the individual offender to both civil and criminal penalties. Over the last few years, industry trade organizations have aggressively pursued civil penalties ranging from $750 to $150,000 per incident. The University takes a strong stance against violations of copyright law (disciplinary action, loss of network connectivity) and also supports fair use of creative works. For more information, visit:
