NETWORK MAINTENANCE: Wired & Wireless 11/3/2012
(US Eastern Time)
DATE & TIME: November 3, 2012 from 5:00 - 6:00 a.m.
Computing Services staff members will perform upgrade work to the university's wired and wireless networks during this period in an effort to improve network stability.
While a complete outage of both networks is not anticipated, you MAY experience difficulty with wired and wireless connections during this maintenance.
The lack of network connection means you will NOT have access to many services throughout the course of this maintenance (e.g., email, calendar, Internet connectivity, etc.). Likewise, individuals will not have access to services hosted on servers within your building. This work will affect the availability of many services which rely on Internet connectivity, including the following: Computing Services cluster machines; Andrew workstations; Email; Webmail; Andrew Calendar; Andrew Printing; MyFiles storage; Department MyFiles storage (DFS); Unix, Linux and Sun4 .andrew server pools; Virtual Private Network (VPN); Network Registration System (NetReg); Wired connectivity; Wireless connectivity; Web publishing: AFS, CMS and AWPS; Carnegie Mellon Web Portal, including event calendar; Directory Services (LDAP); Software license servers.
OTHER Network Services ia upgrading systems and enabling features to increase network stability. CMU Wireless may experience a brief outage (less than 5 minutes). This should not affect wired connectivity due to redundant system design.
NOTE: All regularly scheduled Computing Services Network maintenance occurs on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month between the hours of 5:00 - 6:00 a.m. Visit http://www.cmu.edu/computing/news/maintenance/ to view a complete list.
