WIRED NETWORK OUTAGE: Wean Hall
(U.S. EDT)
DAY: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
DATE: October 22, 23, 24
TIME: 6-7 a.m.
AREAS/BUILDINGS AFFECTED: Wean Hall
SERVICES AFFECTED:
Those who use a Wired connection in Wean Hall MAY experience a brief disruption in their wired connectivity. A loss of connectivity would result in email, calendar, Internet, etc. service disruption. Also, affected users will not have access to services hosted on servers in the areas of the building affected by this outage. Outages are expected to last less than ten minutes. Most users will have no residual problems, but some Unix-based systems may require a reboot to regain AFS (Andrew File System) access.
Not all users nor areas of the building will be affected. The School of Computer Science and the 5th floor Cluster should not experience any loss of connectivity.
Please direct any questions or comments to the Computing Services Help Center (x8-HELP or advisor@andrew.cmu.edu) or to your departmental helpdesk, administrator or DSP consultant.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Contractors will be performing work in several of the wiring closets in Wean which will require some network equipment to be moved from one power source to another. On Wednesday morning, all of the affected equipment will be moved to the temporary power source, and on Thursday and Friday mornings some of the equipment will be moved back to their original power source. Work should be completed by 8 a.m. Friday morning.
