WHAT: Public Clusters Closed
WHEN: May 27 and 28
WHY: Power outage

As a result of the power outage that was previously announced by FMS (see copy of their announcement below), the following public computing clusters will be closed on these dates and times:

Baker, Wean, Hunt and CFA clusters will be closed on Tuesday, May 27 at 5 p.m.
Cyert and WestWing will be closed on Tuesday, May 27 at 8 p.m.

All clusters will be re-opened by 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28. The cluster in Morewood Gardens will remain open as the building is not expected to lose power.

The following message is from FMS.

Main Campus and Hill Dormitories Electrical Power Shutdown 5/28 UPDATE
 
On Wednesday May 28, 2008 (see buildings and times below) Duquesne Light Company transformers and associated control system feeding the main campus electrical system will be tested. The system test will require a complete electrical outage to confirm the proper system transfer scheme.
 
All building elevators will be shutdown by 12:01 AM May 28.

  • From 1:00 am to 6:00 am the following buildings will lose electrical power:
    Wean Hall, Hamerschlag Hall, Baker Hall, Porter Hall, Warner Hall and Cyert Hall.
  • From 3:00 am to 6:00 am the remaining buildings on the main campus will lose power.

During this time period electrical power will be cycling on and off at the following buildings: East Campus Garage, Resnick/West Wing, Hamburg Hall, Smith Hall and the FMS building.
 
Housing buildings across Forbes Ave are not effected, hill dormitories will not have power except Woodlawn Apartments and Spirit House.
 
CIC Building: Building power will be available although the cooling fed from main campus chillers will not be available during the 3:00 am to 6:00 am outage.
 
Please turn off all personal computers and nonessential equipment when leaving on the 27th.
