Maintenance is scheduled as needed. Machines are typically down from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 a.m. the following Monday. Definitive decision to perform maintenance is determined that week. Key users are notified in advance. If critical patches become available, machines may be taken down on short notice--sometimes less than 48 hours.

Publishing through AWPS may not be available during this time, however, web pages published on www.cmu.edu are accessible. A computing news announcement will be made if the maintenance window is being used. |

The following services run on replicated servers; it is possible but unlikely that they would be affected:

- Pharos Printing
- WINS
Services with limited impact (only affect specific groups):
- Microsoft Exchange Email System and BlackBerry Enterprise Server
- Windows Media Services
- WSUS (Windows Software Update Service)

As necessary, on off-peak Saturdays from 6:00 - 8:00 a.m. Maintenance notices are posted on the Blackboard web site.
COMMENTS: There is no set maintenance schedule since maintenance work is avoided during peak usage times (e.g., beginning of the semester or finals week).

Last Wednesday of each month from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.; additional maintenance announced as needed. |

Maintenance is performed as needed. Any outages will be announced via normal computing news channels (e.g., official.computing-news, portal). |
Directory , Official Info, Preferred Info and What Others Can See are unavailable.

Friday evenings from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Saturday mornings. |
This is a redundant service and there normally should not be any downtime. |
| NetDev Servers (DHCP, DNS, NetReg, etc.) |
Saturdays between 6:00 - 7:00 a.m. |
Various web services provided by the network group, including NetReg and NISC, may be unavailable during this maintenance window. All real-time critical services are designed to be fully functional during this time, including DNS, DHCP, and Authbridge. |

First and third Saturdays of each month between 5:00 - 6:00 a.m.
COMMENTS: When necessary, other outages may occur. Notice will be provided, typically two weeks in advance.

- Dialup and VPN Networking
- Software license servers (serving licenses for: 3D Studio Max, Adams, ANSYS, FrameMaker, IMSL, IronCAD Maple, MathCAD, Mathematica, Matlab, Maya, ProEngineer/ProMechanica, SolidWorks, S-Plus)
- Network Registration Systems (NetReg, QuickReg, AuthBridge)
- Andrew & Cluster Printing
- Unix, Linux, and Sun4 .andrew server pools
- All Computing Services Clusters Machines
- All Andrew workstations
Typically NOT affected, but exceptions are possible:
- External Internet connectivity (on-campus computers connected via wired or wireless Ethernet)
- DNS & DHCP

- ANY service that requires external Internet connectivity (e.g., web browsing outside of www.cmu.edu, reading email from off-campus, VPN service, etc.)
- Commodity Internet connectivity
- Research connectivity
- External e-mail (e-mail will be held then delivered once maintenance is complete)
