SANS Webcast: Changing the Way We Manage Vulnerabilities & Patching

(U.S. Eastern Time)
DAY: Tuesday
DATE & TIME: October 20, 2009 from 11:50 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

The ISO is sponsoring a SANS Webcast entitled "Changing the Way We Manage Vulnerabilities & Patching", conducted by Evan Wheeler, Clark University, INFOSEC Team Lead at Omgeo.

WEBCAST DETAILS:

The webcast, which is offered by the SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security (SANS) Institute, will help system administrators determine which security alerts are actually critical for a resource administrator environment. The webcast will demonstrate how to develop risk criteria for severity and likelihood by analyzing some recent vulnerability notifications. By the end of this session, attendees will know how to analyze a new vulnerability report for the distinguishing characteristics that would make it a critical weakness for some, but a moderate concern for others.

The instructor, Evan Wheeler, leads the information security risk management effort as an Information Security Team Lead for Omgeo, and maintains a role as a Security Consultant for the High Performance Computer Modernization Program within the U.S. Dept. of Defense. As a Security Consultant working in many industries for over ten years, Wheeler has spoken to many audiences on topics ranging from PCI risk management to building a forensic incident response infrastructure.
