WHAT: Cyert Hall Emergency Electrical Service to be Exercised

WHEN: Friday, May 16 between 7:30 - 8:30 a.m.

WHY: This test will be a manual exercise of the Cyert Hall data center emergency electrical system.  It will ensure a smooth cutover to emergency power/equipment for the Cyert machine room. The test is being performed IN PREPARATION FOR the campus-wide power outage on May 28 (see the FMS announcement included below).

IMPACT: If the exercise proceeds as expected, it should have no effect on any campus services.

Main Campus and Hill Dormitories Electrical Power Shutdown 5/28 UPDATE 

On Wednesday May 28, 2008 (see buildings and times below) Duquesne Light Company transformers and associated control system feeding the main campus electrical system will be tested. The system test will require a complete electrical outage to confirm the proper system transfer scheme. 

From 1:00 am to 6:00 am. The following buildings will lose electrical power:

Wean Hall, Hamerschlag Hall, Baker Hall, Porter Hall, Warner Hall and Cyert Hall.

From 3:00 am to 6:00 am. The remaining buildings on the main campus will lose power.

During this time period electrical power will be cycling on and off at the following buildings: East Campus Garage, Resnick/West Wing, Hamburg Hall, Smith Hall and the FMS building.

Housing buildings across Forbes Ave will not be affected; hill dormitories will not have power except Woodlawn Apartments and Spirit House.

CIC Building: Building power will be available although the cooling fed from main campus chillers will not be available during the 3:00 am to 6:00 am outage.

Please turn off all personal computers and nonessential equipment when leaving on the 27th.
