Cluster Changes for Fall 2007
Following is an overview of the changes you can expect in the Computing Clusters for the fall 2007 semester.
- Cyert Hall: The Cyert Hall Mac and PC Clusters benefit from upgraded audio visual equipment.
- Hunt Library: The lower level of Hunt Library, formerly known as the Apple Orchard, will now be known as the Hunt Library Lower Level. The new Near and Far clusters are open during library operating hours (generally until 3:00 a.m. daily during the academic year) and will have Windows machines for a flexible Windows teaching space.
- Wean 5201/5203: The Macs that were formerly in the Hunt Library cluster will be moved to the upgraded Wean Hall 5201/5203 Cluster. The cluster will be arranged classroom-style for a better teaching, learning, and working environment.
An LCD monitor mounted in the middle of the room will increase viewing for students seated in the back. Ceiling mounted speakers and tabletop microphones will enhance instructor volume and encourage involvement by students.
Other changes include new ergonomic chairs, added whiteboard space, and a space for faculty and student belongings. The cluster will be open 24 hours a day for better accessibility.
- West Wing Collaborative: Perhaps the biggest change of all is in the former West Wing Cluster. Now known as the West Wing Collaborative Cluster, it has been completely redesigned for an improved cluster environment. For more information about these changes, see the accompanying article, “The New West Wing Collaborative Cluster.”
