Plan to Bring a Computer

For your convenience, public computer labs, or “clusters,” are available across campus and offer a variety of Windows, Mac and Linux computers, peripherals and an extensive complement of software. Additionally, specialized and non-traditional clusters are available in the College of Fine Arts, West Wing and Wean Hall. If you choose to bring your own computer, be aware of which operating systems are supported and be sure to secure your computer.

Secure Your Computer

  1. Go to http://www.cmu.edu/computing/firstconnect/ and follow the secure your computer steps.
  2. When prompted, enter your Andrew account userID and password.

Note: Using a computer that does not have the latest patches and/or is not running anti-virus software leaves it vulnerable to infection and may result in it being removed from the campus network.

Supported Operating Systems

Although other operating systems may work in our environment, Computing Services supports Windows 7, Windows Vista, Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8.

Mobile Devices

Computing Services also supports registration, basic connectivity troubleshooting and email configuration for mobile devices. For support information, see the Mobile Device Support Statement.
