Connect to the Network

When you arrive on campus, visit www.cmu.edu/computing/firstconnect/ to connect to the campus network.

Students in Oakland Apartments
If you live in Fairfax Apartments, Neville Apartments or Webster Hall, you have Comcast Broadband service. Please refer to the steps provided by Housing Services at www.housing.cmu.edu/ broadband/ to connect in your residence.

Secure Your Computer Before You Connect!

Using a computer that does not have the latest patches and/or is not running appropriate anti-virus software leaves it vulnerable to infection and may result in it being removed from the campus network. For steps visit www.cmu.edu/computing/firstconnect/ and then select Secure Your Computer.

Mobile/Network-Enabled Devices

Computing Services also supports registration, basic connectivity troubleshooting and email configuration for mobile and network-enabled devices. So, go ahead...connect your:

  • Xbox, PS3, Wii
  • Tablet (e.g., iPad, Kindle, Nook)
  • Smart phone, iPod Touch
  • Nintendo DS

For support information, see the Mobile Device Support Statement.

When connecting, please don't:

  • Use your smart phone as a wireless hotspot.
  • Create an ad-hoc wireless network.
  • Download or share software, music and movies illegally.
