Computing Off Campus

This page offers help when working off-campus, whether you are across town or in another country.

Restricted Servers/Services

To access restricted servers and services while away from campus you will need to establish a VPN connection. For additional information and steps, visit Virtual Private Networking. You can download the VPN client from Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.

Cluster Software

You can access certain cluster software from anywhere using Linux timeshares or Virtual Andrew. Virutal Andrew uses VMware View connection software.

File Access

Consider the following file storage options if you plan to work remotely:

  • Files stored in your cluster MyFiles space are accessible through Virtual Andrew.
  • CMU Box is a cloud storage service that allows you to access files from any device with an Internet connection.
  • Files stored in AFS (or DFS --Desktop Support Program customers only) are accessible through a VPN connection.
