Why You Need To Secure Your Computer Before Registration...
Before you register your computer, BE AWARE THAT:
- Carnegie Mellon's large, fast, and open public network is constantly UNDER ATTACK.
- if not properly secured, your computer could be COMPROMISED WITHIN MINUTES of going online.
- if your computer is compromised, it will be REMOVED FROM THE CAMPUS NETWORK until it has been cleaned -- a process that can take days.
Follow these steps to AVOID LOST TIME LATER!
NOTE: If your computer is managed by a Carnegie Mellon departmental computing administrator, please check with that person before proceeding.
