When will I transition to Google Apps?

Beginning June 2, you can schedule a migration date that is convenient for you at emailtools.cmu.edu. This date can be changed up to two weeks before your migration.

Will my email address change?

No. Your @andrew.cmu.edu or @cmu.edu address will stay the same. You will still be listed in the CMU directory if you have not opted out.

Should I clean up my email?

A message may fail to move if it contains an executable file, the size is larger than 25MB or the message is spam. Prior to your transition, we recommend that you:

  • Empty your Trash folder.
  • Empty your Spam folder.
  • Download and save large attachments to your computer.

You will be notified of any messages that fail to move during the transition. Please see the Failed Message page for details on how to retrieve these messages.

Will my email and folders be moved for me?

Yes, your current Cyrus email and folders will be moved for you. A final message will be sent to your Cyrus Inbox and a welcome message to your Google Apps Inbox once the transition is complete.

If you notice that folders are missing after you transition, the folders may be stored locally on your computer. If the folders do not appear in SquirrelMail, then they are probably local to your email client (i.e., Outlook, Mail).

I forward my email to another mail service, what should I do?

Your email will continue to forward. However, please consider the benefits of using Google Apps @ CMU:

  • 30 GB of storage.
  • Integrated CMU directory.
  • No ads!
  • Calendar sharing.
  • Drive collaboration.

I use POP for my Cyrus email, what should I do?

If you have POP enabled, your email will not work after the transition. Please disable retrieving email via POP from your personal account AND forward your email via our Forwarding Tool.

I read my email on my phone, will it still work?

Yes but you will need to:

  1. Set a Google Apps @ CMU password
  2. Reconfigure your device

Will I continue to log in with my Andrew userID and password?

Yes, you will use your Andrew userID and password to access your Google Apps email. However, a Google Apps @ CMU password is needed to access your email from a mobile device when using an app.

What happened to my accept/deny spam filter list?

Your accept/deny spam filter list was not moved from Cyrus to Google Apps. To manage spam and other email messages on Google Apps, follow the steps in the Using Filters Google document. If you want to obtain a copy of your Cyrus accept/deny list, please contact the Help Center.
