Using the University Address Book

Webmail uses the University Address Book to find email names and addresses. Follow these steps to find an email address starting from the directory or from within a draft message:


  1. Click Directory.
  2. Select the appropriate search options from the Search For and Where drop-down menus.
  3. Click Search.
  4. A list of individuals appears; click on the person's email address to compose a new message to him or her.
  5. To save the person's information to your personal address book, click Save next to the name.

Draft Message

  1. Click Compose. The Compose message screen appears.
  2. Click Addresses. The Address Book pop-up screen appears.
  3. In the Search for text box, type the name of the person.
  4. From the in drop-down menu, select one of the following:
    • Select Personal Address Book to search your personal address book
    • Select LDAP to search the Carnegie Mellon Directory
    • Select All address books to search your personal address book and the Carnegie Mellon Directory
  5. Click Search.
  6. The name(s) that match your search criteria appear. To use the email address, click the link for To, Cc, or Bcc. The addresses will populate in the appropriate fields of your message.
