Email Clients
No matter what you do at Carnegie Mellon, you will probably become dependent on email. Carnegie Mellon uses Cyrus electronic mail. Cyrus is based on standard Internet protocols. The protocols used are Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP4), Post Office Protocol (POP3), and Multi-purpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) for enclosures.
Mail clients are the applications you use to read or send your mail messages. Cyrus allows you to use any e-mail client that is compatible with either POP3 or IMAP protocols.
