Notes

Kiosk status

Initial outreach and user requirements are done.  Clusters is looking at physical hardware and units.  They're working with campus design and the UC as well as keeping in contact with the Student Senate.  There's no schedule as of yet.

Web develop software

Last time, you said develop software was not available from internet in residence halls. Can you give us an environment in which we can create more complex web sites and publish them to somewhere else?

Mail quota issue

Students were either unaware of an issue or not affected by it.

Printing

Do people print to network printers?  How can we get them to do that?

  • Signs by printer.
  • Right now there are several navigational links to get to Instructions, making them difficult to find.
  • Issue of advertising, not ability.

Documentation

Computing Services documentation is available in html format and a printable pdf will be available for each document.

New computing portlet

There were suggestions to put a "Did you know?" section either in the CMS on the front page of computing services page, or in the portlet.  Topics would consist of:

  • how to use WebVPN
  • set up printing
  • portal and how it's used to put money on accounts
  • posting to misc. market

What issues do you want to hear about this semester?

  • OLR needs to be better.  What are they looking into?
  • CMS is ok, but there's a lot to be desired.  Doesn't support anything beyond static stuff.  SAC is interested in being involved in the organization and planning step of projects such as this in the future.  What are the future plans for making the CMS more dynamic?
  • Portal as a control panel.  Consolidate information into one place.  Information should and could be organized better.  It could be more intuitive.
  • How can SAC be more involved in projects like Portal?  Or other projects on campus?
  • A wiki (or other online resource) for SAC might be helpful in getting quick feedback on short questions.

Stuff for next time

  • Martha Baron - Director of Administrative Computing
  • Feedback on some of your questions from last year
  • Dan McCarriar - Bandwidth monitoring
