Mulberry Phaseout Support Chat Sept 13, 2006 Attendees: Kim Daboo (HSS), Denise McConnell (FMS), Melanie Myers (Libraries), Louis Stein (Drama), John Rogowski (Tepper), Curt Yeske (CEE) CompServ attendees: Gretchen Beck, Tom Dugas, Clay Fulton, Dolores Heagy, Kimberly Hennessey, Laura Valentine, Karen Van Dusen Karen - Labor Day weekend stats: 600 staff using Mulberry; 470-ish using it as their primary client - Staff numbers are still falling quickly - Faculty are starting to drop off - We will still do reports for departments on request. The turnaround is about 48 hours. - Webmail: there are problems with the updated version, so we are not rolling that out yet. We will probably put out the permissions plugin by itself. - LDAP searches: we are working on fixing the issues with non-person searches, so that you can have a search that will get you the Hub and other non-person accounts - Next email outreach will be to recent Mulberry users, and users who we think have configured a local mailbox - After Oct 1, the Help Center will not support Mulberry, but will continue to help people convert. - We've been working on a conversion video to help step people through the process. It runs parallel to the documentation and should really help folks. Louis - Has thought been given to making MSIs? o Karen - we did think about it; it's really not scalable for us. - in the doc. for outlook, by default outlook wants to save a local copy of all sent mail to hard drive but for data security you want to save to an imap folder. you have to create a rule set for this. sometimes this rule can silently turn itself off if there are network interruptions and it doesn't fall back to a local mail box. o Kim - can we talk to MS about this? It's a serious problem. o One workaround is to keep everything locally and then manually move it up to the server, but that is not a good solution. - in entourage even if you don't have a pword in the keychain, if you launch entourage from someone's desktop and click cancel on the pword box, you can see their cached info o Tom - You should be able to turn this off in Outlook. o FAQ - We don't have "how to turn off the cache" documentation, but we do have security steps to help people protect their email when the cache is on. http://www.cmu.edu/computing/documentation/outlook_use/outlook_use.html#secure Melanie - Most of our people have migrated. Denise - Problem with mailman lists - delays in message arriving in the mailbox. o Gretchen - usually this is delays on the mailman server, and we want to know. o Send headers & information to the Help Center when this happens Curt - We've had outbox problems. Messages would get held in the queue on Outlook and not get sent. o Karen - this may be an authentication problem. - Is there a way to turn off expunging in webmail? There's no two-stage delete and that is a problem. o Gretchen will check - we've had a couple viruses come through on outlook on properly-config'd machines even though preview pane is not on o Karen is interested in trying to track these - please let her know when this happens Gretchen - we've gotten a lot more Mulberry calls in the past week at the Help Center. We're not sure why.
