Mulberry Self-Support May 24, 2006 Computing Services support for Outlook & Entourage: Outlook Primary - Scott Haas Outlook Secondary - Mike Podlipsky Entourage Primary - Yerin Kay Entourage Secondary - David Baisley Thunderbird documentation - Heinz, Libraries, some others are interested - Jeff Eaton has written some documentation - Computing Services won't support the clients but will make contributed docs available General transition plans: Libraries- - have had training from Computer Education - some users have had problems with the transition - sending problems with Outlook -- Service Pack 2 for Office should help with this Heinz - - email to staff June 1 - classes scheduled with CompEd for Outlook. - estimating up to 1/3 of users will end up with Thunderbird. - Most Mac users were using Apple Mail to begin with. - Plan to do a demo class, lab session, and then schedule the upgrade. - Have been using Aid4Mail - no problems so far. - Mulberry contacts - maybe 10% successful in exporting contacts and reimporting into Outlook. Half the time it doesn't even know what to do with the file that comes out of Mulberry. - Two paths - handholding, and self-service with a lot of documentation - Goal is conversion of staff by end of July. Tepper - - transition problem with Groups contacts - the program thinks the group name is the name of all the people in it, and strings the emails all together. - not started yet. - Students mostly use Outlook. - Staff are aware of the issue and will be transitioned department by department. - People don't really understand what will happen to their mail - they are afraid of it going away. - Would find the ad-hoc user information on Mulberry users useful for Faculty users. - "We'd been telling people not to use Outlook because Mulberry is more secure, and now people want a more secure solution when Mulberry goes away." - getting questions about the ability to use the built-in Outlook calendar SEI - - supporting Mulberry & Thunderbird. - Do not support Outlook, so are concentrating on moving people to Thunderbird. - No firm dates set yet. CEE - - Curt says "I have gone through denial, anger, bargaining, and depression!" - 50-100 handholding conversions - Technical issues to resolve with shared machines There is confusion between Outlook and Outlook Express. - people will need to be clear about that with their users - the documentation should be clear about that, too - a lot of security concerns about Outlook might stem from this confusion!
