Carnegie Mellon's Campus Computer Recycling Program Old computing equipment, particularly CRTs, can contain as much as 9 pounds of environmentally hazardous lead. The EPA can technically fine the university as much as $10,000 for every computer monitor their investigators might find in our dumpsters. CMU’s Environmental Health and Safety group ensures that university departments properly dispose of hazard materials. Don’t toss your old equipment in the dumpsters -- let the EH&S group pick it up and take it away for proper disposal.
