Scan for Security Risks and Viruses

In addition to the shield provided by Auto-Protect and Tamper protection, Symantec AntiVirus includes a number of different options for scanning your computer. These options are described as part of the Scan window.

Select Scan from the Symantec sidebar and select any of the following scan types.

• Scan a Floppy Disk
• Custom Sca
• Quick Scan
• Full Scan

Each of these scans can be scheduled as a Startup Scan, User-defined Scan or Scheduled Scan. We recommend that you perform a daily quick scan and weekly full scan.

Schedule a daily quick scan and full scan

1. Select Edit > New Scheduled Scan.
2. Select Quick Scan as the scan type and click Next.
3. Type Daily Quick Scan in the Name field and click Next.
4. Under Frequency, select Daily and set the desired time. Click Next.
5. Click Save.
6. Select Edit > New Scheduled Scan.
7. Select Full Scan as the scan type and click Next.
8. Type Weekly Full Scan in the Name field and click Next.
9. Under Frequency, select Weekly and set the desired day of the week and time. Click Next.
10. Click Save.
