File System Auto-Protect
File System Auto-Protect provides continual background scans for viruses, spyware and adware. Each time you create, open, move, copy or run a file, this option causes Symantec AntiVirus to scan the file for a possible virus. Likewise, Symantec automatically scans for spyware and adware risks, quarantines infected files and repairs or removes the effects of the security risk.
The File System Auto-protect and Scan for Security Risks features provide optimal protection against viruses, spyware and adware. The installation automatically enables each of these options. However, you may use the following procedure if you would like to modify this configuration. See the Symantec online help for further details.
- Double-click the Symantec shield in the system tray.

- From the main menu, select Configure > File System Auto-Protect.
- The File System Auto-Protect window appears.
- Select the checkbox for Enable Auto-Protect.
- Selec the Scan for Security Risks option.
- Click OK.
