Maintain the Quarantine Area
The Quarantine is a holding area for infected files. The virus or risk is contained within the Quarantine area and cannot be spread to other areas of your computer. You should periodically check the Quarantine area and clear or attempt to repair infected files.
Note: The main Symantec AntiVirus window displays the number of items in the Quarantine area.
Note: The items in the Quarantine area are usually infected. Do not restore an item unless you are certain that it is not infected.
- Select View > Quarantine.
- Use the buttons at the top of the Quarantine window to:
- View the properties of the infected item.
- Export the Quarantine list to a report in comma-delimited format.
- Restore the quarantined item to its original location.
- Clean the virus from the infected file and restore it to its original location. If an item cannot be cleaned, try to run LiveUpdate and clean the item again. If an item is cleaned but cannot be moved to its original location, it is moved to Repaired Items.
- Delete the infected file permanently.
- Submit the infected item to Symantec for analysis.
- Add a file to the Quarantine area manually.
- Purge the quarantine files automatically after the file has been quarantined for a specified number of days.
