Step 4: Download & Install Norton AntiVirus for Desktops
When kept up to date, Norton AntiVirus (Symantec) detects viruses, trojans and some worms as they appear on your hard drive and alerts you so that you're aware that your machine has been infected. For more information, see Securing Your Machine: Definitions. Anti-virus software does not protect you against a break-in.
Important Note: Any anti-virus software that was bundled with your new machine is probably a trial package that will expire in three months. Without continuous updates, the virus definition files quickly become outdated. Be sure to download Norton AntiVirus (Symantec) software and run Live Update continuously.
Download and Install
To download and install Norton AntiVirus (Symantec), follow the steps in the Installing Norton AntiVirus section of the Norton AntiVirus for Mac document.
LiveUpdate and Auto Protect
The installation process configures Norton AntiVirus to provide maximum virus protection for your machine by default. However, you may want to modify the default configuration or learn more about it to gain a better understanding of the virus protection you are running. For more details, please see the Running LiveUpdate, Scheduling LiveUpdates and Auto Protect sections of the Norton AntiVirus for Mac document.
