Mac PII Clean Up Software - Status Page
Unfortunately at this time Computing Services has not yet found any end-user friendly, release quality PII searching or clean up software we are willing to recommend for the Mac.
We are continuing to evaluate commercial alternatives and have sponsored work to improve the user interface for the open source Beta Test version
Cornell Spider for Mac. Identity Finder for Mac is targeted for release in Q1 of 2009. Re-visit this page for further updates.
We can recommend the following workarounds for those that feel they are technically savvy or can enlist help from a departmental computing administrator:
- Intel Mac users who have Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion may install Identity Finder for Windows into a Windows virtual machine and then mount their Mac disk volume to be searched and cleaned from inside their Windows virtual machine. Consult the Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion documentation for disk mounting instructions.
- The Beta Test version of Cornell Spider for the Mac is available for download directly from Cornell. Although this version effectively locates files containing PII, the search results are written to a log file which must be opened directly and each search result must be handled manually.
