Using Manual Feed in the CFA Cluster

Depending on the type of special paper that is being used, manual feeds may result in paper jams. For this reason, a manual feed option should be used only at the CFA Cluster printers where ccon help is more readily available.

Important Paper Restrictions

Always check with the ccon before using any of your own paper. NEVER use transparencies or glossy photo paper.

Steps to Manual Feed

Note: To use special printing features, such as manual feed, refer to "Adding a Specific Cluster or Library Printer" for Windows Vista & XP or Mac OS X 10. 5 Leopard or Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

Follow the steps below to perform a manual feed:

  1. Request your print job.
    • Submit your job using either of the CFA print queues:
      • On Windows, select either:
        • cl-cfa on PRINTING.ANDREW.CMU.EDU
        • cl-cfa-colorlaser on PRINTING.ANDREW.CMU.EDU
      • On Mac, select either:
        • CFA 3xx
        • CFA 3xx Color Laser
  2. In the print dialog box, do NOT select the manual feed option; instead select a tray option (e.g., Tray 2).
  3. Walk to the CFA release station and follow these steps:
    • Wait for any jobs that have already been released to print.
    • Load your special paper into the appropropriate tray (the tray you selected when you ordered the print job (e.g., Tray 2).
    • Swipe your card at the release station and release your job to the printer.
