WebVPN Introduction

WebVPN is a secure web service at http://www.vpn.cmu.edu that allows you to access IP restricted WEB SERVICES, including external Library services. It uses SSL to secure traffic between your machine and restricted web-based campus services, such as library databases.

This WebVPN option provides a convenient solution to users who access restricted Library services, do not frequently require the VPN service or who access restricted services from public kiosks. If you're already browsing the Internet and need to access a restricted web service, use this site rather than launching the desktop client and relaunching your browser.

This service does not require any software or registration. WebVPN uses your AndrewID and password to log in to the service.

Note:  The first time you access http://www.vpn.cmu.edu, you may get a "connection failed" error, due to an invalid security certificate.  At the bottom of the error screen, there should be a link to add an exception.  Select that link and follow the steps, then you will be prompted for your Andrew userID and password.

Note: The WebVPN service is the quickest and easiest solution for accessing restricted Library services. However, if you encounter problems accessing some Library services using WebVPN, we recommend that you download and install the Cisco VPN Client and register for the VPN-Library network. Visit the University Libraries Remote Access site for more Library specific information.
