What if I forget my "import" password?

If you forget the "import" password that you assigned to a certificate, delete the certificate from within the Cisco VPN Client. Then, download the certificate via NetReg again. This will prompt you to assign a new "import" password. You must complete the process by importing the password into the client again.

What if I forget my "connection" password?

If you forget the "connection" password that you assigned to your vpn certificate, contact the Help Center. The connection password is required to delete the certificate. The Help Center can walk you through steps to manually delete the certificate and then you import the certificate into the Cisco VPN Client again. When you import the certificate again, you are prompted to select a new "connection" password.

Error Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client.
Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding.

You may encounter this error if you did not setup the Windows Firewall exception in step 6 (see the document Cisco VPN Client). When connecting through a router, you may disconnect if the connection is idle for some amount of time. This time span differs based on the timeout value configured on your router (this value is set by the factory and cannot be modified). If you have already configured the firewall exception and continue to have problems, use the cmu_vpn_tcp connection (configured for IPSec over TCP). See step 5 in the document Cisco VPN Client if you do not already have this connection type configured.

Error 33: Unable to delete certificate xxx from certificate store

This error is generated if the incorrect connection password is entered when you try to delete a certificate. Retry using the correct "connection" password. If you forgot your connection password, contact the Help Center for assistance.

Error: Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client.
Reason 403: Unable to contact the security gateway

  1. Verify that you are successfully connected to the Internet.
  2. Make sure that you are using the correct "connection" password.

The Cisco VPN Client is displaying warnings that my certificate is expiring. What do I do?

Follow the instructions to Renew a Certificate in the VPN Certificates: Understanding and Managing document.
