Sharing Files with Windows Users
To share files or folders with a Windows computer, you must turn on Windows File Sharing.
Turn On Windows File Sharing
- Select Apple menu > System Preferences...
- Click Sharing in the Internet & Network section.
- In the Sharing window, if necessary, click the lock icon and autheticate using the administrator userid and password.
- Follow the steps for your operating system, Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard):
- Select the checkbox next to Windows File Sharing.
- Click Enable Accounts.

- Next, select an account to use and click Done.
IMPORTANT: Do not select an administrator account. Also, make sure the account you are using has a strong password.
- Click the lock icon to prevent further changes and quit System Preferences.
- Select the checkbox next to File Sharing and click Options.

- Check Share files and folders using SMB.
- Next, select an account to use and click Done.
